Just walk beside me and be my friend.

“Don’t walk behind me…I may not lead.
Don’t walk in front of me…I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.”
-Albert Camus

Admittedly, I am the mom that believes not to be friends with your kids until they are in their 20s…they need a parent until then, setting boundaries and dragging their tushes out of house parties they lied about being at. I believe in being the mom that will do anything to keep you safe, even if that means you think you hate me for a little while. A mom’s love is tough, we can handle it.

However, friendships involve trust and standing beside someone through thick and thin. Being a friend is having someone you can literally confide or say anything to them and they will receive it with compassion, knowing how hard that must have been to confess. Friends are there to celebrate your triumphs and are there to carry you through tragedies.

So I guess you could say I am a mother first with best friend-like tendencies❤️ And sometimes moms need to just stand beside and be a friend…who knows, we may learn something from our children!
